The country’s wind-power capacity increased 15% to 40,181 megawatts in 2010, and the industry could perform even better this year, according to the American Wind Energy Association. Wind energy accounted for 26% of generation capacity last year. “We remain on track to produce 20% of America’s electricity by 2030 with wind, as laid out by the Department of Energy during the Bush administration,” said Elizabeth Salerno, the association’s chief economist.
