Kalmar has received an order for 18 RT240 Rough Terrain reach stackers from the US Department of Defense, scheduled for delivery later this year.
Built to military standards the 24 tonne RT240s are capable of handling 20 foot and 40 foot ISO containers on a wide variety of ground conditions. They are able to stack containers weighing 24 tonnes three high on the first row and containers weighing 12.5 tonnes three high on the second row. It can also operate on gradients up to 27 percent and in water a meter deep.
Tim Crossno, executive vice president of Kalmar’s Texas RT center, said: “This is yet another endorsement of the quality of Kalmar’s solutions for rough terrain applications. The RT240 can quickly be made ready for operation, it is simple to service, maintain and fix in the field. It also has the ability to ford through five feet of water and operate in extreme temperatures, which significantly increases uptime. A pre-existing parts agreement with the Defense Logistics Agency ensures that all replacement parts support requirements are optimized to precisely meet the customer’s needs.”
Destined for multiple military bases across the United States, the Department of Defense currently operates with 1,246 Kalmar RT240 reach stackers.
