TEUFELBERGER’s consistent growth has heightened the need for additional manufacturing capacities. More specifically, it has also increased the necessity to be able to deliver ropes of bigger diameters and heavier piece weights. This is why TEUFELBERGER, in order to boost its capacity from its two existing wire rope plants in Austria (Wels and St. Aegyd), will now establish another production facility in Stralsund, in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, practically next to the harbor wall.
“After a thorough analysis of the location, the decision in favor of Stralsund was made because of its direct access to the sea, its long-standing tradition in metal processing and the handling of heavy loads, and also because of its pool of highly qualified professionals,” said Florian Teufelberger, CEO of TEUFELBERGER Holding AG, who is convinced that the new location will be perfect.
The new factory building will cover an area of 14,000 m² and be situated directly on the Baltic Sea. The production plant is to manufacture steel wire ropes having piece weights of several hundred tons. The total investment will be € 38 million – tantamount to the value of about 190 single family homes – and therefore constitutes the biggest expansion project in the 225 years of TEUFELBERGER’s history. In a first phase, the facility will be staffed with 70 employees. The implementation of this project will begin immediately, and production is scheduled to start in Q4 of 2016.
Roland Konrad, Managing Director of TEUFELBERGER Seilwerk Ges.m.b.H., expects that this expansion will, above all, allow us “to access new markets with the new rope constructions, which we, with our existing manufacturing capabilities, have been not been able to take advantage.” Besides, the direct access to the Baltic Sea gives us a clear advantage for shipping the extremely heavy reels.
