Talurit Group, the global leader in mechanical splicing systems for wire rope, is proud to announce the release of the Talurit® RBS 90. This innovative rigging device, designed for Talurit® swagers, simplifies the labor-intensive process of forming sling eyes on large-diameter wire ropes, enhancing both safety and efficiency.
The Talurit® RBS 90 acts as a mechanical assistant, enabling a single operator to manage the entire swaging process — a task that would typically require two or more people. It is mounted directly onto the swager, making it highly effective and cost-efficient. This add-on system dramatically reduces the physical effort required and minimizes the risks associated with handling large-diameter wire ropes, which are often difficult and dangerous to bend due to high flexural forces.
The device is controlled through an electric joystick system, which provides the operator with precise and responsive control. Depending on the degree of movement or pressure applied, the operator can execute slow, nuanced motions with light touches or achieve faster, more intense movements by increasing pressure. Having only two multifunctional joysticks allows for exceptional control and adaptability, making the entire process smoother and safer.
Thanks to innovative engineering, it consumes only one-third of the power compared to its predecessor — an impressive 66% reduction in energy usage while maintaining the same strength and performance. It also features an automatic power-down function that engages when there is no throttle applied to the joystick. This ensures energy is conserved during idle periods, while the device instantly powers back up and resumes movement when the operator touches the joystick again.
Visibility is key, and the RBS 90 ensures the operator has a clear view of the entire swaging process. The control unit, attached to the press body using strong magnets, can be moved to the operator’s preferred height or positioned elsewhere for ergonomic convenience. This flexibility not only enhances usability but also ensures that the operator remains in full control at all times.
In addition to its safety and efficiency benefits, the RBS 90 boasts a range of advanced features. Its compact, foldable design saves space when not in use, and its integration of electric joysticks reduces the number of hydraulic hoses, significantly improving manoeuvrability and overall user-friendliness. The device’s upgraded glide surfaces minimize maintenance requirements, while its robust construction ensures long-lasting durability even under the most demanding conditions.
Jonas Werner, Mechatronics Engineer at Talurit Group, comments: “Developing the RBS 90 was a rewarding challenge, as we set ambitious goals for its performance and wanted it to be compatible with our older swager models. Seeing it come together in the final months and excel during rigorous testing has been very satisfying. It has a lot of power, yet it feels smooth and precise to operate.”
Designed for use with Talurit’s 800T, 1000T, and 2000T swagers, the RBS 90 is suitable for handling wire ropes of up to 90 mm in diameter. Its versatility allows it to be used in a variety of configurations, including forming eyes on wire rope slings, both with and without thimbles, as well as thimbles with master links or hooks. The rigging device can also be retrofitted onto almost all existing Talurit® swagers with the same capacity, with minimal modifications required for older models.
Talurit Group’s CEO, Victor Lindh, comments: “This new rigging device is based on our commitment to safety and innovation. We are excited to offer this solution to wire rope professionals worldwide and we believe it will have a significant impact on their day-to-day operations, making their work safer, more efficient, and ultimately more productive.”
With its cutting-edge design, intuitive controls, and enhanced safety features, the RBS 90 fits perfectly in Talurit Group’s mission to provide high-quality, innovative solutions to the global wire rope industry.
