Straightpoint Recruits Logistics Expert

Straightpoint has named Simon Paine logistics supervisor, bringing to the role three decades of tier one supply chain experience from the automotive sector.

The force measurement, load monitoring and suspended weighing load cell manufacturer prides itself on short lead times, putting Paine at the forefront of one of the most important departments at the company.

He said: “That doesn’t faze me at all. I am used to less than 24-hour lead times in certain instances. I intend to use the skills and tools that I have learnt during more than 30 years in logistics. Initially, I will review working practices and subsequently consult with the team to understand their issues, concerns and roadblocks.”

Straightpoint director David Ayling said: “Simon’s recruitment follows suit with recent acquisitions in that he brings to the team perspective, experience and proven success as a leader in his field. This world-class manufacturing business is led and inspired by the people within it and a zenith level recruitment policy is paying dividends.”

Paine said inventory reduction and delivery are two key performance indicators by which to measure his success. He explained: “My role will centre on ensuring shipments are made on time, whilst overseeing receipt of goods and supplied parts in addition to tracking shipments and arranging transportation quotes.”

Paine drew synergies between his old and new manufacturing environments. “Moving parts are moving parts,” he said. “It’s the strict adherence to quality and effective SOPs [standard operating procedures] that ensures one gets it right first time. In both the automotive and force measurement sectors, there are complex parts and pieces of kit, short lead times and issues to work through with suppliers.”

Ayling said: “The role of logistics supervisor is one of the key positions at the company. When parts and products are arriving or being shipped, there is no margin for error on thoroughness and comprehensive supporting documentation. Simon will be responsible for procedures that ensure we have enough stock to deliver to the best lead times in the industry, yet preserve our cash-flow and efficiency as a business.”

Ayling concluded: “His experience and knowledge will be invaluable across the company as a whole as we grow inline with our business plan over the coming years. He joins recent new recruits Dave Mullard [business development manager], Sarath Chandran [project engineer] and Myron Jones [North America operations manager] as we continue to expand our world-class team of experts.”
