Discussions on the issues that develop from the use of all types of rope in the offshore industry will be facilitated by the new ‘Rope Forum’ established by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) Crane & Winch Operations Workgroup (CWO).
“The group will be made open to all so manufacturers of cranes, winches, wire and fibre rope will have a place where they can meet the users of their equipment and discuss issues,” explains IMCA’s Technical Director, Jane Bugler. “Meetings may concern design issues relating to the construction and use of large diameter wire ropes or the problems associated with the lubrication of wire ropes in a heave compensation system. Others may involve the use of swivels, terminations, bending stresses, or the latest developments in fibre ropes and the design and use of their intended winch drums. Those interested in joining the new forum should contact Philip Wiggs at Philip.Wiggs@imca-int.com.”
