Rockwell Elected 2011/2012 President of ASME

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has named Victoria A. Rockwell of Air Liquide USA, LLC, as president-elect for a one-year term beginning in June 2011. Rockwell will begin her tenure along with three new appointees to the ASME Board of Governors and six new vice presidents, each of whom will serve for a three-year term.

Rockwell currently serves as director of Investment Development at Air Liquide, a Houston-based developer of gases for the industrial, health and environmental sectors. An active member of ASME for 31 years, she is a strong advocate of engineering education and has helped to leverage the Society’s impact and influence in the engineering marketplace.

Rockwell, an ASME Fellow, holds degrees in mechanical engineering and in applied science and mathematics.

At the 2010 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress, held last month in Vancouver, BC, the Society announced three new members to serve on its Board of Governors for the 2011-2014 term. They are:

Betty L. Bowersox, manager of Process Improvement at Nooter/Eriksen (Fenton, Mo.), the world’s leading independent supplier of natural circulation heat recovery steam generators.

Julio Guerrero, Ph.D., principle research scientist at Schlumberger Research, Cambridge, Mass., with research collaborations in robotics for subsea and land oil operations.

Charla K. Wise, vice president, Program Management at Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, Md.  Wise is a recognized leader in the defense, manufacturing and energy/environmental service industries.

ASME also announced the appointment of Kenneth R. Balkey, P.E., to serve as senior vice president of ASME’s Council on Standards and Certification.  In this leadership role Balkey will work with the ASME Board of Governors in establishing and overseeing the strategic direction of the Council, while serving to promote ASME codes, standards and certification programs. Balkey, an ASME fellow, is a consulting engineer at the Westinghouse Electric Company, Pittsburgh. Pa.

Five newly-appointed vice presidents will also commence their three-year terms in June 2011. They include:

Richard H. Bunce, P.E., an engineer at Siemens Energy’s Gas Turbine Instrumentation Development Group. He will serve as ASME vice president, Global Communities.

Guido G. Karcher, P.E., ASME fellow and a consulting engineer with over 50 years of experience in pressure containing equipment and safety practices. He will serve as ASME vice president, Pressure Technology Codes and Standards.

Richard W. Swayne of Reedy Engineering, a metallurgist, welding engineer and a consultant with years of experience in design, fabrication and operation of mechanical equipment in nuclear power plant components. He will serve as ASME vice president, Nuclear Codes and Standards.

Andrew C. Taylor. P.E., has served in commanding officer and leadership instructor roles for the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve since 1981, and in a number of assignments with Entergy Nuclear since 1986. He will serve as ASME vice president, Leadership and Diversity.

Richard B. Williamson, ASME fellow and executive chairman of TD Williamson, Inc., a privately owned business proving global pipeline integrity maintenance products. He will serve as vice president of the Houston-based ASME International Petroleum Technology Institute.
