In 2013 Petersen Stainless Rigging Ltd became the worlds first bar shackle manufacturer to be certified to the aerospace quality standard AS9100:C. Since that time Petersen shackles have found application in aircraft evacuation systems, satellite construction, military parachutes and now on the Airbus A400M.
Petersen’s unique forging process allows it to manufacture shackles with incredibly high strength for a given size which makes them ideal for use in aircraft. Petersen Stainless Rigging Ltd has been manufacturing shackles for over 100 years but the relatively recent move to formalise its quality system to AS9100:C has opened up a whole new market for the company.
Over the next three years Petersen intends to expand further into the aerospace market by becoming a manufacturer of custom high-strength fasteners.
After a recent re-certification audit by Lloyds Register (LRQA), CEO Kevin Bell stated, “I’m delighted that our shackles have been specified in such a prestigious project as the A400M, this is a real indication of the quality our products and service. During our recent audit by LRQA the auditor picked up one of our shackles which was in production and commented that just by looking at it you could tell it was an absolutely top-quality shackle. All the staff at Petersen take a great deal of pride in the shackles we manufacture and I think this shows in the end product.”
Petersen Stainless Rigging is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of quality-assured stainless steel rigging and lifting equipment for the petrochemical, lifting, architectural, yachting and aerospace industries.
