The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will present its 2011 Distinguished Achievement Awards on 1 May to Cortis (Cort) Cooper for his pioneering work in metocean research, and to BP Norway for the Life of Field seismic reservoir surveillance project. ExxonMobil Development Company will receive a special citation for its deepwater project implementation in Angola.
The awards will be presented at the Annual OTC Dinner, a new signature event on Sunday evening that will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. The dinner will kick off the world’s largest conference for offshore development, which will be held 2-5 May at Reliant Park in Houston.
OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals
Cort Cooper, a metocean (meteorology and oceanographic) specialist in Chevron’s Energy Technology Company and a Chevron Fellow, is being honored for his contributions in metocean research and his leadership of joint industry efforts to address oceanographic challenges. Cooper’s work includes research that identified a link between hurricane severity and the Loop Current, investigated the causes for the recent severe hurricanes, the possible impacts of global warming on hurricane severity, and provided a post-assessment of metocean conditions during hurricane Ivan.
OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations or Institutions
BP Norway is being recognized for the Life of Field seismic reservoir surveillance project, which demonstrated the practicality of implementing an entirely new way of seismic surveillance of producing hydrocarbon reservoirs. The project’s permanent installation of seismic cables covering 45 square kilometers of the Valhall field allows for very cost effective repeat seismic surveys, and the system provides 4D data with unique repeatability compared to standard streamer data.
Special Citation
ExxonMobil Development Company is being recognized for the development and implementation of the “Design One, Build Multiple” philosophy to deliver major deepwater projects in Angola’s Block 15.
Photos of the award recipients and information on their projects will be available on the awards page.
New Event: Annual OTC Dinner
The inaugural Annual OTC Dinner will recognize the award recipients, raise funds to benefit the Gulf of Mexico Foundation, and provide an excellent opportunity for industry leaders to network with colleagues from around the world. It replaces the Awards Luncheon that had been held on Tuesday. Table sponsorships are available.
Tickets are USD 125 each.
