Posted on January 12, 2015

A new high-level conference has been launched by global lifting authority the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) and will be opened by the Ministry of Manpower. The inaugural LEEA Lifting & Rigging Conference Asia will take place at the Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium on Outram Road, 23-24 June, 2015.

The event will combine two days of presentations and networking for lifting industry professionals working with overhead cranes, hoists and rigging equipment in onshore, offshore and marine applications. The event also boasts a tabletop exhibition which will be open to all attendees during breakfast, coffee and lunch breaks.

LEEA is established across the globe as the leading representative body for all those involved in the lifting industry worldwide. It is the respected and authoritative representative body for those who work in every aspect of the industry, from design, manufacture, refurbishment and repair, through to the hire, maintenance and use of lifting equipment.

The conference will begin with a keynote speech from Er. Tan Kee Chong, Deputy Director, Singapore Ministry of Manpower. Other headline speakers include Mick Hoyle, crane, rigging and lifting specialist at oil and gas giant ExxonMobil.

Hoyle said: “In a world where there are many different safety systems, I have put together a very simple cost effective concept that will keep people safe. Safety by Distance is a concept not only to be implemented when at work but to be used in everyday life. Applied consistently it will become a way of life.”

He will share this Safety by Distance concept with LEEA Lifting & Rigging Conference Asia delegates and explain how it is based on an ideology that people should always be protected first, not assets. Hoyle will outline how delegates should use their eyes and ears to alert them to a dangerous situation and position themselves out of harm’s way.

The inaugural LEEA Lifting & Rigging Conference Asia 2015 is organized by Bridger Howes Limited.
