New ‘Wirerope Lofts’ redevelopment planned for former Roebling steel mill

As published in a recent article from NJ.com, the State of New Jersey has awarded $16.1 million toward the $42 million redevelopment of the Roebling Complex in Trenton.

The funds will be awarded, over a 10-year period, through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Economic Redevelopment and Growth program. Developer HHG plans to redevelop the old Roebling Steel building on Route 129 into the Wirerope Lofts, a mixed-use development consisting of 190 loft apartments and 27,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and a piazza for outdoor events.

The 4-acre site served as the home of the Roebling complex until its closure in 1974.  The John A. Roebling’s Sons Co. manufactured wire rope for suspension bridges and elevator cables for 125 years.
