LEEA: Raising Funds for Motor Neurone Disease Association

Motor Neurone Disease

The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has chosen the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association as its charity to support this year, to increase awareness of the devastating disease, raise crucial funding to support their research work and improve access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. A Just Giving page for donations has been set up at THIS LINK. or by scanning the Motor Neurone DiseaseQR Code at left.

The MND Association will also be in attendance at LiftEx 2023 and the LEEA Awards 2023 in Liverpool for some fundraising activities.

Richard Parris, Corporate Development Manager at the MND Association, said: “This partnership with the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association represents a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of MND and the MND Association and together with their fundraising efforts, can help make a real difference to our work.”

Motor Neurone Disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing neurological condition affecting up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. The condition attacks the nerves, leaving those affected unable to walk, talk, eat and ultimately to breathe. It usually progresses rapidly and there is currently no effective treatment or cure. One third of people with MND lose their life within a year and over half within two years of diagnosis.

A diagnosis of MND is extremely frightening, leaving those affected unsure of what to do next and where to turn. Without the right support, they can be left feeling fearful, isolated and alone. Many people with MND can deteriorate incredibly quickly, so it is vitally important for them to get the support of specialists in a range of areas as quickly as possible.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association funds research, improves care and provides support for people with MND, their families and carers.

Kat Moss, LEEA Chair, shares a personal insight into one of the reasons why the MND Association was selected as LEEA’s Charity of the Year: “I am a keen rugby fan and so the ongoing fundraising by Kevin Sinfield inspired me to want to support the funding into such a debilitating condition, so that one day I might hear the news that MND is curable. Rob Burrow, Dodie Weir and Ed Carter are inspirational and have really shone a spotlight on a condition many people that may never have heard of or experienced. I feel strongly that it’s important for us to support such a worthwhile but necessary charity.”

LEEA’s charity of the year is typically announced at our annual awards evening later in the year, but in an effort to drive awareness and create a greater impact in support of a worthy cause we are taking a new and positive step forward in launching our fundraising campaign far in advance of the Awards night.  We ask our members to donate any amount they can and encourage you to start your own fundraising campaigns in support of the Motor Neuron Disease Association.

We thank you in advance for your support.
