New economic analysis released on March 31 by the Carbon Trust, a U.K. government-funded nonprofit, revealed that the global offshore wind sector is set to grow by up to 10 percent annually and could be worth up to 170 billion pounds ($273 billion) annually by 2050. Carbon Trust estimated the U.K. would capture about 10 percent of this market, creating 230,000 jobs and generating 100 billion pounds for the U.K. economy between now and 2050.
