Hays Companies (Hays) Salt Lake City P&C Group, one of the nation’s Top 20 insurance brokers, announces the hiring of Douglas Ball, after his recent retirement from the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA). Ball brings a wealth of regulatory environment and government relations experience to his new role in business development at Hays. The move will better serve Hays’ SC&RA member base, as well as both current and prospective clients.
Hays, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a privately held corporation designed to provide a wide range of insurance services, from traditional placement of coverage to risk management services, customized risk pooling, consulting, employee benefit and financial service planning. By bringing in Ball, Hays looks to further enhance its relationships with members of state trucking associations, SC&RA members, American Trucking Association (ATA) and government officials. Salt Lake City’s P&C Practice Leader, Dave Wittwer, sees the hiring of Ball as a game changer. “Doug Ball’s willingness to join our team increases visibility, solidifies our credibility and allows us to broaden our services to SC&RA members. In addition to insurance and risk management advisory services, we can now offer direction and counsel on a host of industry, and especially, regulatory issues facing SC&RA members. Doug will be able to open doors for us.” Hays’ quest is to provide sound counsel and superior service to SC&RA and its members on a variety of complex insurance and risk management issues.
SC&RA provides nearly 1,300 member companies from 46 countries with the unique information and any other lawful activities needed to help them run safer, more efficient businesses. Members operate within specialized transportation, machinery moving and erecting, industrial maintenance, millwrighting, crane and rigging operations, manufacturing and rental. Ball was with SC&RA for nearly 13 years, serving in the role of Vice President, Transportation, focusing on federal and state regulations and province transportation policy.
“My experience working with the states and the over-dimensional transport industry is in line with improving risk management,” he says. “Hays Companies is committed to reducing risk through safe policies and practices. By continuing to work for harmonization of policies and reducing risk, we perform a service to the entire industry.” Born and raised in Missoula, Montana, Ball served as a U.S. Army officer in the U.S., Europe and Vietnam. A 25-year career in the FBI followed. Upon retirement, a need for change and some familiar interests sparked a third career. “I had driven a truck early in my work experience, and the Army sent me to a transportation course in Ft. Lee, Virginia. There was an opportunity to retrace my steps and join SC&RA. I spent my entire career in service to help others, and to me this was a natural progression. My transition to Hays Companies again gives me an opportunity to help members in compliance, safety and risk management.”
Both Hays and Ball look forward to a productive relationship representative of the value offered by one of the nation’s most reliable insurance brokers, and its newest business development specialist. For more information on Hays, visit www.hayscompanies.com.
