Costa Concordia Refloated

Concordia Aerial ImagesThe Costa Concordia refloating was completed Tuesday, July 22nd. This morning at around 11 am, Titan Micoperi began the departure operations for the Concordia to leave from Isola del Giglio and begin its navigation towards Genoa with an average speed of 2 knots.  The arrival in Genoa is planned at the moment between Saturday July 26th and Sunday July 27th.  With the arrival of the last ferry, operations to disconnect the mooring cables that connect the Concordia to the towers on the shore side are in progress.

A convoy of 14 vessels, led by the tugboat Blizzard, will conduct the tow, and since the refloating, the vessel has been, and will continue to be, under the constant power of a team of tugs keeping a series of lines tight to ensure control in its upright position.

Additionally, divers and remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) operations have continued to monitor sponsons, cables and chains under the hull, and tow wires while onboard, and shoreside personnel constantly review and watch systems to ensure continued integrity of the operation.
