Bridon's cables raise the Olympic Stadium Roof.

DONCASTER MP Rosie Winterton has praised the Doncaster workers who have become the first to raise the roof at the 2012 London Olympic.  Staff at wire rope manufacture Bridon, based at Balby Carr Bank, Doncaster, created the 12,000 metres of cables which have been used to help make the roof at the site where stars like Usain Bolt will compete in two years time.

Ms Winterton, the Minister for Yorkshire and The Humber and also Doncaster Central MP, visited the stadium to see their work first hand.

She said: “It is a magnificent achievement and I congratulate all those at Bridon International who’ve worked on this project.

“It is tremendous that a business from Doncaster is playing such a key role in what will become a landmark building seen by billions of people from around the world.

“I hope Bridon’s success will encourage other businesses from across Yorkshire and the Humber to become involved in London 2012 and benefit from this incredible event. Making contact with the Yorkshire Gold Business Club is an important first step.

“The London 2012 Games provide an unprecedented opportunity for our region’s businesses in every sector to gain new contracts and put their services and products onto a global stage.”

The stadium is due to be completed by the summer of 2011.
